The Hyundai Tucson outscored every other small SUV to take home the 2016 J.D. Power APEAL award. Standing for Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout, the APEAL study measures owners’ positive feelings for their vehicles after 90 days of ownership, using 77 different criterion across eight categories, encompassing:

  • Engine and transmission
  • Ride, handling, and braking
  • Comfort and convenience
  • Seats
  • Cockpit and instrument panel
  • Heating, ventilation, and cooling
  • Sound system
  • Exterior and styling

In particular, the judges made note of the Hyundai Tucson’s fuel economy — up to 33 MPG on the highway in the Eco edition — comfortable seats, strong visibility, infotainment, and storage space.

“We are thrilled with the recognition of Tucson in this year’s J.D. Power APEAL study,” said Scott Margason, director of product planning at Hyundai Motor America. “The new Tucson looks great, has two fuel efficient engines and a roomy interior that satisfies a wide range of SUV buyers. The team did a great job launching the all-new Tucson this year.”
