2022 Hyundai Tucson Engine Differences: 2.5L vs. 1.6L Hybrid
Curious about the details and differences between the 2022 Hyundai Tucson engines? The following information covers everything you need to know so you can select the best one for your needs.
2.5L GDI/MPI Four-Cylinder
With efficient yet robust power, you’ll love the performance of the 2.5L GDI/MPI four-cylinder engine. So, what makes this engine tick? It’s available with two different fuel injection systems: the GDI, or gasoline direct injection, and the MPI, or multi-port injection. The GDI fuel injection system provides higher output — and therefore more energy — because of how it’s delivered to the engine. The Tucson will receive greater efficiency and output fewer emissions with the MPI fuel injection system because it injects fuel at each cylinder to better control fuel consumption. Both fuel injection systems are available as well to get the best of both worlds. Idle Stop & Go technology also contributes to better fuel economy.

1.6L Turbocharged GDI Four-Cylinder Hybrid
You’ll notice that the 1.6L turbocharged GDI four-cylinder hybrid engine has the same fuel injection system as the gas engine, but the combination of battery and gas power ultimately allows it to deliver optimal performance with greater fuel efficiency. To reserve fuel, this hybrid engine uses more electric power and less gas to add torque at lower speeds. The battery is then charged thanks to regenerative braking technology.
